"The Funicular: a connection between the city and its surrounding nature"

1. Screen printing, comic strip, and fanzine workshop (Octav Avramescu)

Bring any textile material and you can print it with the funicular's design using the screen printing technique. On Friday, everyone is invited to look for stories about the funicular to transform them, with a little help, into a comic strip; from Saturday onwards, the drawings will be turned into a group fanzine.

2. Stone carving workshop (Tsvetelina Angelova)

The workshop aims to bring the public closer to a very little explored field - namely working with stone - even though the same stone surrounds and shapes the landscape of Reșița. The workshop will offer both young and old the opportunity to work together on creating a large common artwork and smaller pebbles with engraved children's drawings. The created works will remain as a specific artifact for the inhabitants of the Reșița community.

3. Participatory mural painting (Dorin Moldoveanu)

Everyone is invited to lend a hand to create a collective artwork: a pixelated image of the funicular. No prior experience in mural painting is required.

4. Hip-hop dance show (Alina Dumitruc)

Let's get energized to the rhythm of hip-hop.

5. "Playing with Science" (Daniela Vulpeș, Lavinia Borcilă, and Elena Vlasie)

Workshop for children on illuminated drawings, robot programming, and games, all with the theme of the funicular.

6. "Resicza" Boardgame (Andrei Bălbărău, Amateur Filmmaker Museum)

Check how much you know about Reșița through this interactive game anchored in the city's rich history. The game's theme will be the development of Reșița, whether industrial, economic, or residential, using the city map and covering 3 periods of its development: the UDR period (1920-1948), the communist period (1948-1990), and 1990-present. Resicza Boardgame is a project financed by the Științescu Banatul Montan fund, coordinated by the Banatul Montan Community Foundation.

The Grandfather and the Pier is a moving documentary that captures a community project stemming from a heritage object with a history of over 130 years. On a small island in the middle of the Irish Sea, a giant, dilapidated pier juts out into the rough sea. Closed for decades, this symbol of the city is brought back to life thanks to a grandfather who manages to buy the pier for one euro and involve the local community in the gradual recovery of this structure laden with meanings and memories.

"View from my balcony" - Photographic exhibition with Ioana Cojocariu

The neighbors of the cable car photographed the cable car from their upper-floor apartments. What is their perspective? Considering the planned conversion of the cable car, the exhibition aims to encourage the act of documenting it from subjective and affective perspectives, perspectives that will over time become testimonies of historical value.

Project participants: Alexis Wald, Mihai Lupsan, Manuela Tabacar, Alexandra Dorobantu, Ioana Ciolea, Adriana Baghiu, Alessandra Chițu, and Maia Chivu.

"Writing on Water" - Poetry installation, in memoriam Ion Chichere, created by the creative tandem 111invers1 (Lumi Mihai and Mugur Grosu).

Nicknamed "The City of Poets", Reșița has produced numerous remarkable writers, and this year marks 70 years since the birth and 20 years since the passing of the Reșița poet Ion Chichere. On the metal structure of the Vamă Bridge, over the Bârzava River, the tandem will create a ...magnetic poetry installation: on one of the bridge's arches, the poem "With the Sled on the Rainbow" by Ion Chichere will be reproduced, and below it, everyone is invited to continue the lyrical exercise through a simple game with magnets, combining expressions, words, and letters on the metal elements of the bridge, following the model of surrealist "cadavres exquis" (exquisite corpses) collages.

On Sunday evening, the tandem will also hold a poetry and electronic music performance, in memoriam Ion Chichere, alongside the Reșița poet Christian Bistriceanu.

The event in Reșița is the first episode of the "Writing on Water" project, carried out through co-financing "Energie! Creative Grants", awarded by the Municipality of Timișoara, through the Project Center, and will subsequently be carried out in Timișoara, on the Bega River, and at the Art Encounters foundation.

Linear Play (Paula Iancu and Daniel Miron)

The Linear Play installation invites the public to play by interacting with the controls of the machine that crosses the Bârzava River on a cable stretched along both banks, symbolizing the historical function of the cable car and the importance of teamwork.

2. Set Design Workshop: "Babar, the Little Elephant", led by Adriana Toacsen (6-9 years old)

Babar's story is about a little elephant who, forced by circumstances, arrives in the city. Here he discovers himself, discovers the joys of life, and then returns to his childhood place with a rich baggage of experiences and knowledge.

For this presentation of the show within the UrbanEye Film Festival, the story of little Babar is adapted to the local context, giving children the opportunity to discover details about Bucharest. "The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant" will take shape through the dialogue between the actor interpreting the story written by Cécile de Brunhoff, the piano, and animation, as well as through the invitation for children to engage in a dialogue aimed at sparking their curiosity about the city they live in.

Via Transilvanica is a road that crosses a diversity of ethnic, cultural, historical, and geographical landscapes, a road about communities, identities, and rediscovery. Inspired by famous trails like El Camino, Via Transilvanica is not just a physical journey, but also an inner one, accessible to everyone, regardless of age or condition. The film explores the titanic work behind the creation of the 1,400 km trail, from the plans put on paper, to the sometimes difficult collaboration with authorities and institutions, to field explorations.

On Sunday morning, we invite you to meet us under the Funicular and embark on a hike up Cross Hill to reconnect with the sounds of nature and identify the birds present in the area. Don't worry if you don't have specialized knowledge; your mobile phone and the free Merlin app developed by Cornell University can be helpful.

Our guides will be Alina Floroi and Oana Mondoc from the WeWilder Association, part of the WWF's bison reintroduction initiative and advocates for rewilding.

The De-a Arhitectura Association, in partnership with Street Delivery and UrbanEye Film Festival, is organizing the "Playing Funicular" workshop in Reșița, dedicated to teenagers aged 12-15. The workshop encourages teenagers to discover this industrial heritage object, which is a symbolic landmark for Reșița and for the industrial infrastructure inherited from the past. Participants will mark the funicular's route on a map, learn about the place's history, observe and draw details, and imagine a possible transformation of the funicular to integrate it into daily life. They will learn about structures and create a model of their own funicular, as a symbol connecting two worlds.

The workshop is adapted and guided by Dr. Arch. Brîndușa Havași, based on a theme created by Arch. Simona Tamaș.
