Informative panels and thematic tours to discover the history of the city's becoming

November 2021

Six informative panels about the history of emblematic places and buildings in Reșița have been placed in different neighborhoods of the city. As a way to recover the city's memory, we set out to tell the story of some objectives and buildings with history through an installation of 6 panels with archive photos and useful information, placed in several neighborhoods.

The panels are arranged as follows:

  • Panel 1 – Lunca Pomostului – University – Block 800;
  • Panel 2 – Vila Koch;
  • Panel 3 – The Coat of Arms of Reșița on Dealul Golului and the Civic Center;
  • Panel 4 – The Bridge at the Customs – The Funicular;
  • Panel 5 – the demolished neighborhood between the Universal Store area and the Reformed Church;
  • Panel 6 – The Rows on Dealul Crucii.

From the information on the panels, you can find out that Vila Koch, for example, which currently houses the Teacher's Training House and where the Cărășana Restaurant was previously located, is the only building that survived the demolitions of the 1980s from a neighborhood developed at the end of the 19th century in the area. About the houses in Rows I-IV on Dealul Crucii and those on Țerovei Street, it is said that they are the oldest in the city. Or you can find out more information about the funicular that crosses the city at a height of 30 m, built in 1964 to facilitate the transport of limestone from the Doman quarry to the factories.

Also, driven by the desire to make known the emblematic places and the stories of Reșița's transformation, we also organized a series of thematic tours for tourists, residents, and young people. The tours took place on November 4 and 5, 2021, following these two routes.

The initiative to place the aforementioned panels, as well as the thematic walks, are part of the Virtual Museum Reșița 250+ project, a platform that highlights the stories of the transformation of the city's neighborhoods and industry. The project is co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN) and the Reșița City Hall. Partners: Image Archive (part of the National Peasant Museum of Romania) and the Amateur Filmmaker Museum.
