Open Doors Day at the Triaj-Mociur-Valea Țerovei Industrial Site

May 2024

On the last Friday of April 2024, we opened the gates of the Mociur-Triaj-Valea Țerovei industrial site, alongside the Reșița City Hall, ADLR - Reșița Local Development Agency, the Amateur Filmmaker Museum, and the Mociur Industrial Collection museum initiative.

The event's purpose was to offer citizens of all ages the opportunity to (re)discover the industrial past of this area, as well as its current and future development prospects.

The Mociur-Triaj-Valea Țerovei industrial site is Reșița's largest contiguous industrial area - over 180 hectares. Within this perimeter, developed during the communist period, the factories have been decommissioned - the foundry, the forge, the agglomerator, the coking-chemical plant.

The city is undergoing a transformation. The industries that operated in this area have made way for other, cleaner, more technologically advanced enterprises aligned with new global demands. Public investments are also being implemented or planned, anticipating (new) transformations. The vast space once occupied by large factories is making way for new models and directions of urban development: new access roads, new residential and commercial development zones, new educational facilities. Thus, compared to other industrial sites in the city, this perimeter is in full redevelopment.

The open day included:

>> A meeting with the active business community in the area for presentations and consultations regarding the area's development prospects;

>> An exhibition for the general public with archival photographs of the factories that were once on the site, development prospects, and ongoing or planned investments;

>> Guided tours;

>> A visit to MIC - the Mociur Industrial Collection and a metal casting demonstration.

>> Screenings of Sahia short films about Reșița's factories, organized by the Amateur Filmmaker Museum at the Art and Industry Salon.

Two years of working side-by-side with the Reșița City Hall lie ahead, envisioning and synergizing for the urban regeneration of the area. A difficult but exciting process. Complex, but necessary, desired, viable.

This event is part of the project “ReInd-BBG: Reindustrialization following the Brownfiled better than Greenfield Principle”, funded by the Interreg Danube Region Programme.

MKBT participates as an implementation partner in this project, alongside the Reșița City Hall, as well as 5 other municipalities and their local partners from regions along the Danube.
